The Georgia State University Office of the Ombudsperson seeks mediators to act as judges at their upcoming mediation/peacemaking tournament on Friday October 20th, which be held as part of Georgia State University’s annual Conflict Resolution Symposium. Judging will involve scoring the participants’ performance as mediators and negotiators, as well as offering feedback. The participants will be undergraduate students who are novice or beginner mediators with fairly limited training and experience.
The tournament will consist of two rounds (90 minutes each) of mediations, where two co-mediators from different teams will work together to mediate a dispute involving parties and advocates (role-played by tournament participants). If you are interested in participating as a judge this year, please email Chris Vermillion , Assistant Ombudsperson, at your earliest convenience.
The schedule for judges is as follows:
9:15 – 10:00 Overview of tournament and judging process. A light breakfast will be provided.
10:00 – 11:00 Keynote Address by Dr. Cirleen DeBlaere
11:00 – 1:00 Mediation Round 1
1:00 – 2:00 LUNCH
2:00 – 4:00 Mediation Round 2
4:00 – 5:00 Break (and tabulation of scores)
5:00 – 6:00 Awards Ceremony
